Remembered for Trailblazing Denver Sports Radio
“Thierry Smith, in himself, was an oddity for all of Denver media,” said Calvin Williamson. “To hear someone of his caliber doing sports, who was from the community, he was a superstar.”
His on-air personality was entertaining, but his voice was often slower and calmer than others in the market. “He was different than typical broadcasters,” Spence says. “He did feel a need and a desire to entertain … to give a story at hand. He had a great sense of humor that endeared many of his listeners.”
Thierry Smith, Denver's most unlikely radio sports-talk host, is on the air. And unlike other talk shows in town, the program is more about them than it is about the host, their angry exuberance standing in marked contrast to Smith's own measured, monotone sound.
Unlike the vast majority of other sports-talk-radio specialists, Smith, who battled multiple sclerosis, shared his opinion at a hushed volume instead of a splenetic roar. "It's a very sad day for anyone who knew Thierry, and for Denver in general," said Tim Spence, Fan program director.
